Task 1: Trending Experience
LECTURES
Week 1: Introduction to AR ExperiencesAR Design Workshop
After learning about the various AR experience kinds and development technologies, participants will be able to swiftly construct an AR experience.
AR/VR/MR Differences
AR
- Less immersive
- Combines virtual and real items
- Improved physical environment
VR
- Improve within the realm of physical world physics
- Engage with and modify virtual objects
MR
- More immersive
- Computer generated world
- Perception of reality
- Perception of reality
Types of AR Experience
- Projection
- Head mounted display
Mobile phone extends information
VR extends experience
AR extends visual
Week 2: Designing Experiences
XD
- There is no one design discipline that dominates experience design.
- Rather, a cross-disciplinary approach is needed, taking into account several facets of the brand, business, environment, and experience, ranging from the product, packaging, and retail setting to the attire and demeanour of staff members.
- Developing a product, service, or event's experience is the goal of experience design.
Empathy Map
One tool we use to express our knowledge about a specific user type is an empathy map. It externalises user information to
1. Establish a common understanding.
2. Facilitate decision-making.
Week 3: User Controls and UI (Buttons)
The lecturer taught us about using script and event system to make a functionable UI. Switching between different scenes by clicking the buttons.
Week 4: Markerless AR Experience
Instead of using image target, we used the function ground plane to simulate the ground.
Fig 1.1: Makerless AR Before
Fig 1.2: Makerless AR After
We learned about animating a sphere and a cube to move and rotate after detecting the image.
Week 6: VR Gallery
We have learned about creating a 3D room model with 2D images and interactive buttons that shows text. We also learned how to have a miniature room model on click turn into a life size room.
Week 9: Pointer Animation
Week 10: Avatar
Week 11: Model and Colour Switcher
INSTRUCTIONS
Week 1
Task 1
Identify what type of XR experience. Is AR or MR? Describe why.
Fig 2.1: XR 1.0
1. AR. There is a device a tablet and the experience is limited to the screen.
Fig 2.2: XR 2.0
2. MR. The digital elements are interactable in the physical world. Fig 2.3: XR 3.0
3. AR. The digital elements are only interactable on the tablet screen.
Fig 2.4: XR 4.0
4. MR. The digital elements and the physical world are mixed together. Fig 2.5: XR 5.0
5. AR. The digital elements are bound by the screen of a tablet.
Activity 1
Launch google.com on your phone browser. Search for dinosaur or dog, cat, tiger. View in 3D. View in AR (Life Size).
I was able to see the virtual cat in 3D. But AR is not supported in my phone.
Fig 2.6: 3D Cat Model
Task 2
Imagine the scenario in either of the two places. They are kitchen, shopping mall and gym. What would the AR experience be and what extended visualization can be useful? What do you want the user to feel?
Shopping mall. I want to be able to show the directions of the groceries. I propose having an AR grocery store directory. I propose having an AR grocery store directory. The AR directory will show the distance, arrows to lead the way and the groceries image.
AR, MR and VR are really interesting because it is the blend of technology and the real world. I look forward to the day XR is common around the daily life of people.
Week 2
Group Activity: Journey Map

AR 3 Ideas Proposal
REFLECTION
I learned about unity and AR by using vuforia engine. I learned about the difference between the marker based AR experience and markerless AR experience. There was a lot of navigation of the unity app to achieve the desired outcome.
I had to follow the steps from the tutorial the lecturer gave us. There was a lot of troubleshooting and checking to see what steps went wrong. Through trial and error, I was able to make the AR software successfully.
