I am tasked with the obstacles, visual and layout. I made a mockup based on the various screens in the game while taking inspiration from other references such as HUD elements, menu, pause menu, inventory screen and level select screen. For the obstacles, I decided to take into account to the lecturer's feedback to incorporate fairy theme such as flower and mushroom and combine with the moving or jumping platform.
Presentation Draft
Our initial idea was treasure hunting in a forest filled with traps before arriving at the final treasure. Our lecturer wanted us to explore other ideas and try to have a more creative media.
Finalized Presentation
Our team decided to go with the lecturer's suggestion of a fairy trying to find her wings in a mystical forest. I have to update some pages like the HUD and the level completed to the theme of fairy. I incorporated feather stamina bar and wings progress bar changing according to the level completed.
FEEDBACK
Week 2General Feedback: To compete with the triple A games, an indie game should be creative and new to attract an audience.
Specific Feedback: If you want to stick with the forest theme, you can have a premise like a fairy finding her wings. The flying mechanic will be interesting to play and the premise is more interesting with a twist.
REFLECTION
During this exercise it's just ideation and prototyping so I can explore what story the game is based on. Our initial idea forest treasure hunt was given feedback to have a more interesting plot. It is decided that our team went with the fairy finding her wings in the magical forest.
I learned that feedback is important in order to tailor the final product to the client's vision. I decided to keep a copy of the initial pitch as progress during our finalizing game idea process. I understand this game design document is to pitch ideas and get them approved before starting creating assets and coding.
I made some mockups which is to ease my design process when I have to create the screens from scratch. I referenced other gaming interface to take inspiration from.
