LECTURES
WEEK 8: IMPORTANCE OF OBSERVATION
Designers are tasked to come up wtih solutions through effective visual communication.
Be attentive to the environment details and analyse them.
We are able to tell the particular place based on the objects.
INSTRUCTIONS
WEEK 8
For a place that has a lasting memory, I want somewhere I can visit whenever. For me it is a time. 4am in my room, the sun hasn't rose. The ambience feels like in a middle of a small remote meadow, the air is cooling, comfortable silence and the solitude. I like this time because there is only me, no noises from machinery operating, creaking of doors opening, even the birds and dogs are asleep.

My plan was to incorporate meadow plants into my bedroom. I wanted the bedroom to be real, with all it's mundaness. Daily objects can still look pleasing too.

I realised this looks a bit too bland, only having plants incorporated with the room. So I began doing more visual research to explore other alternatives.

I end up with a sketch I really loved. Underwater to describe me being outside from people and noises. The lily pads is like concealing me from the surface air, my own world in my room.

WEEK 9
I started to do a digital sketch. I made the lines not continuous so there is some visual interest.

Then I did some monochrome colour blocking, so the values are there.

I want it to look more night time, so I added a blue overlay. I also realised I wanted light to shine through the lily pad. Here I learn a important lesson why you don't do everything in one layer. It is hard to make alterations when you have new plans. This resulted in two light sources present, one through the lily pad, one from the window.

FINAL SUBMISSION

FEEDBACK
WEEK 9
Specific Feedback: The underwater setting is a good similie for being away from the real world, so is the underwater lily pads. The one point perspective bedroom is nice because at first glance it looks like a normal room, but when you start to look at it, you will realise something is not normal. I can go research other surreal artist, to see how they incorporate other elements into the work.
REFLECTION
Experience:
I learned that setbacks are normal. There will be times when you try something, and it was not how you planned it would be. Starting back from square one is actually a normal step in the process of creating. From this project, I proved to myself that I can make something better than the initial idea.
Observations:
Learning new information is just as important as creating. Since creating is all about using the information you have on your hands. I used to think only creating is important. Now I realised learning how other people execute their work, can help provide me with insight I can use in my current work. Currently, my skill level is limited to the knowledge I have now. I will work hard to gather more information about illustration as that is what I would be specialising in.
Findings:
Exploring artist that has the same direction as the work you are going for, can help gain extra insights we otherwise would not think of. I did not do it for this assignment. But it is something I will keep in mind in my future tasks.
