INSTRUCTIONS

Idea 1: Shopping Mall directory
Problem statement:
When grocery shopping, I have to spend a lot of time finding the groceries. I want to be able to see the directions of the groceries.

Solution: I propose having an AR grocery store directory. The AR directory will show the distance, arrows to lead the way and the groceries image.

Strengths: Immersive experience of a pain point in shopping. Users are less lost and is able to find the grocery with ease.
Weakness: Too complex to implement.

Idea 2: Kitchen Recipe
Problem statement:
The majority cooks while following a recipe. The recipe is often in static text and images which is limited in guiding the cook. I want the following recipe experience to be more immersive.

Solution: I decided to have an AR kitchen recipe. There will be the recipe name, number of steps, instructions followed by a video tutorial.

Strengths: Easier to learn and follow the recipe. This makes the cooking experience more intuitive like there’s a person there to teach you.
Weakness: Have to turn on an additional AR camera while cooking.

Idea 3: Quest Productivity
Problem statement:
Productivity is a goal for many people. There is a genre of AR quest based rewarding system, like Solo Leveling, Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint.

Solution: I decided I wanted to create an AR quest productivity. There will be a leveling up system and a timer to calculate the time spent

Strengths: The immersive gamified AR productivity will help users to be more engaged.
Weakness: Unable to check whether the user is working or not.

Idea 4: AR Sun, Earth & Moon System
Problem statement:
It is really hard for students to visualize the planets with the traditional textbook way. Students would like to engage in something interactive and 3D.

Solution: I proposed creating a AR sun, earth & moon system. There will be interactive learning by exploring the orbit and characteristics of the planets.

Strengths: The AR experience helps the user to be invested in the learning experience of astronomy.
Weakness: To properly visualize the sun, earth & moon system the scale would not be accurate.

Finalised idea: AR Sun, Earth & Moon System
Initially I wanted to go with the AR kitchen recipe. But I thought it would be counterintuitive to hold a phone while cooking. Apparently there were people that had the same idea as me and found it difficult to implement it. The lecturer wants me to come up with an idea that is more creative and tells me to view student past works. He recommended going the educational route. So I thought about the sun, earth & moon system.

User Personas
I created 3 user personas with different background and at different stages of life. They also have varying levels of tech skills. They are a student, a teacher and someone employed.

I then created a user journey map of learning the s
un, earth & moon system through traditional means such as science textbook. I included pain points to understand the difficulties of each stage of studying about the material.

From the pain points, I came up with solutions that the AR app would solve.

Then, I created a new journey map that reflects the gain point of the solutions provided. The journey map is about the pain point of traditional studying and the gain point of the AR app.

Next, we need to make a mockup of the AR app. I went to the unity asset store and found some 3D models of the sun, earth and moon. I wanted to make sure that the final outcome is represented in the mockup.

I screenshot the preview image and remove the background using Adobe Photoshop.

I then created a series of mockups using Figma. I created the camera icon using Photoshop.

Colour Palette

I wanted a futuristic sci fi look. I decide to go with the color blue as my accent colour. I incorporated some neutrals like grey to make the planets stand out.

These are the colours that I used in the mockup.

Typography
I wanted a font that fits the theme of astronomy. I decided to go with a futuristic font like Audiowide for the heading. Hopefully, with this font choice the typography conveys the message of somehting futuristic and related to astronomy.

I wanted to have text contrast between the heading and body text. I want the body text to be legible as well as complimenting the headings and making the heading stand out with a stylized font that is Audiowide. I chose Roboto as my body text.

Mood Board
I explored space apps and came across various designs and interpretations of a space app. Though due to the 3D orbit I want to create for the sun, moon and earth system, I designed my app to be horizontal. The typography is clean and minimalistic allowing the imagery of planets to be the main focus.

REFLECTION

In the ideation phase, I wanted something that is simple to code and interesting. My initial ideas were not approved by the lecturer. He told me to change the direction of the ideation into educational. There were many educational science topics that have been covered by past students. After some brainstorming, I thought about astronomy and animals. I eventually sticked to astronomy sun, earth and moon system. Thanks to the feedback from the lecturer, I have valuable opinion on the ideas provided.

I learned how to create an app prototype using Figma. It was really intuitive to learn. The AR app mockup provided imagery for the lecturer to understand what direction we are going for and give feedback before creating the final product. I also learned about the creative process of making an app via colour palette, typography and moodboard.
